The Life I Could Not Save

Thu Sep 22, 2005 at 06:39:55 PM PDT

Is this the true indicator of our society?  You tell me. The diary is based on an indident that happened at my office today and based on the comment one patient made as she left the office.

I was made aware of the fact that a small kitten had been hit outside of our office today and no one was there to report or help the wounded animal.  Within minutes I made the proper calls for help and then went outside to see if I could rescue this helpless victim.  It is too sad to retell the details as they replay in my mind but the poor thing was beyond help.

Someone had hit this poor small kitty with their car and not stopped to help.  It is criminal and I don't know how anyone could do this and live with themselves.

I did try to rescue the kitty but too late, so sorry, try again next time.  I have to tell it like this I will cry and cry a river.

Animal rescue came within 15 minutes and I was ever so greatful, thanked her so much, but was so close to tears and at work and had to leave the scene.

There was a female patient, very nicely dressed and manicured, who had been listening in on the whole event, apparently.  When she left, she asked me about the kitty and I retold the events to her.  As she was leaving she turned around and stated, "You know, the way we treat our animals is a testimony to the way we treat our society".

The feather syndrome took me over and I am sure I said something inane in response but it is true?  I think it is, and more than that, I fear it is.

First diary and all, sorry if it hurt some of you, being pet rescurers like me, but had to get it out.
