For those of you who missed it, I busted John McCain on a blatant, bald-faced, pandering lie that revealed McCain to be a two-faced, say-anything-to-win politician.
A man who will lie about even the most personal and important events in his own life to gain votes.
But, to summarize, McCain said that in order to trick his captors as a POW, he gave the names of the Steelers defensive line instead of his squadron mates. This, it turned out, was a blatant, obvious, pandering lie. (See my diary from yesterday for the iron-clad details). Now, the lie is getting a little bit of play in the media.
In an interview with KDKA July 9th, John McCain claimed he recited the Pittsburgh Steelers starting defensive line when under distress with his North Vietnamese captors.
"When I was first interrogated and really had to give some information because of the physical pressures that were on me, I named the starting lineup -- defensive line -- of the Pittsburgh Steelers as my squadron-mates!"
That's all well and good, but from 1967 to 1973 during McCain's imprisonment, the Steelers were just starting the process of assembling the great teams everyone remembers.
John McCain gave an interview to Newsweek and screwed the pooch twice, which may be a single-interview record. Not only did he flatly deny ever saying something he in fact said on national TV last Tuesday night, he again changed his position on warrantless communications surveillance and again indignantly denied having ever changed his position on warrantless communications surveillance. Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.
A few days ago, I put a post on here calling for an end to the vitriol when it came to Hillary Clinton, believing that she should be given the benefit of the doubt. I am now forced to retract that statement in light of her comments regarding RFK.
I had just read a great-catch diary this morning by NWTerriD where she nailed John McCain on a rather large misinterpretation of the Constitution during a speech at Wake Forest and his campaigns attempts to cover it up.
Less than an hour later while watching MSNBC, I found myself in a laughably similar situation.
This race is over and you are being lied to.
In an open letter to Barack Obama Clinton said:
"I have consistently said that the votes cast in Florida and Michigan in January should be counted."
Or this from Bill Clinton:
"We are gonna have to resolve Michigan and Florida and when we do she can win the popular vote."
They are so focused on Florida and Michigan. They really really want the votes to count! And they have been so consistent on this point....
They are L Y I N G to you. And Forgive me if I'm wrong... but you're not supposed to let that happen...right?
You want proof they're blowing cigar smoke up your ass?
Lie to me and tell me everything is all right
Lie to me and tell me that you’ll stay here tonight
Tell me that you’ll never leave,
oh and I’ll just try to make believe
that everything, everything you're telling me is true
Lie to me.

The Lie That Launched the 21st Century
Today we affirm a new commitment to live out our nation's promise through civility, courage, compassion and character.
Hillary Clinton has won 15 primaries or caucuses. Barack Obama has won 19 primaries or caucuses by 20 percentage points or more. Frequently, a lot more. Obama won the Democratic nomination in March, and we're just waiting for his acceptance speech. In the interim, why not give this Cindy McCain person a closer look. I saw her on the "Tonight Show," and my impression was that she could prove to be a gift basket of bountiful political swag.
Time Magazine online has run a puff piece about Cindy McCain's appearance with Jay Leno. An Iowa TV station and other local stations across the country carried an homgenized glowing report about McCain's appearance on their websites.

Sometimes, politicians lie to get elected. This is a fact, and is not okay. Politicians are the elected leaders of our communities, and should, among all people, be the most trustworthy and honest. In recent weeks, all three presidential candidates' records have been scrutinized for thousands of hours. From all this review, some disturbing discoveries have been made, notably, of Hillary Clinton's repetitive embellishments on the truth, or just simple LIES.
Everybody in politics lies, but [the Clintons] do it with such ease, it’s troubling.
Geffen was wrong -- at least about Hillary. She may (or may not) be troublingly willing to lie -- I'll use the more general term "mislead" -- for personal advantage, but it's not easy for her. You can tell by watching when she does and doesn't maintain eye contact. This diary examines her performances in the South Carolina debate and last night with Jay Leno to see how her eye contact gives her away.
People are very attentive, even if unconsciously, to eye contact. Assessing the honesty of strangers, and intimates, is an important survival skill, well-honed by evolution in human beings. Most people have trouble looking someone in the eye while deceiving them without "tells", so attention to eye contact powerfully affects "gut level" emotional judgments.
This may be part of why Hillary's negatives are so high. But don't accept my word; I refer to videos below. If I'm right, they raise a question: do we want to nominate someone with this deficiency?
Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) has kicked off his reelection campaign and immediately began lying. I realize that this may sound like I'm just being hyperbolic. I'm not. I'll translate his statements from Norm-speakTM into standard American English and highlight a few choice nuggets so you can see for yourself.
Surrounded by Somali immigrants, veterans, his family and an array of Republican stalwarts, Sen. Norm Coleman formally launched his reelection bid in St. Paul on Wednesday, declaring himself to be a "voice of optimism in cynical times."

My sister, who is graduating from law school in May, brought up a very interesting point that the MSM hasn’t gotten regarding Sniper-Gate. If we move this argument forward and continue to pound, we can bring Hillary down once and for all:
20th century politicians have an embarrassing blind spot when it comes to 21st century information technology. They just can't stop thinking that the old rules still apply, that a smooth-talking, friendly presentation will always win out over an accurate, honest description of what's going on.
Misinterpreting the influence of YouTube, political blogs and the Internet is equivalent to Nixon's early 1960's blunder of dismissing the influence of television. Kennedy beat him, but then Nixon learned and re-manufactured his image, just in time to beat another old-style politician, Hubert Humphrey.
Today's information technology is exposing the machinery of yesterday's propaganda technology.
A Republican oops I mean Democratic candidate for President (Hillary Clinton) today suggested that Congress should grant retroactive immunity for the Mortgage Bankers that sold all those bad loans, this is not a joke, she really did.
The New York senator proposed greater protections for lenders from possible lawsuits by investors, a variation of so-called tort reform. For years, GOP leaders have called for restrictions on what they consider unwarranted lawsuits against businesses. Democrats have often resisted them on grounds they limit injured parties' legitimate rights to redress.
Hillary Clinton's quote this morning concerning her participation in the Michigan primary has most certainly made the news, but BoBo2020 pointed out today in his diary the direct contradiction she is making to her pledge to the DNC.
