the death penalty

Here we go with my first non-poem diary.  It's the story of Patrick Fitzpatrick, who is the reason Michigan does not have the death penalty.

irreversible errors

I just watched The Chamber.  And, like everytime I see or read something death penalty-related, it gets me emotional.

Below the fold, a poem on the death penalty.

an unattainable goal

Why try?
Why must they die?
Why even attempt?
Despite the contempt
That it brings
When the truth rings
Through
That you
Are killer.

Not directly
Not detectably
But through means
Unavailable to the average lunatic.

3653
Dead
Because you said
We must achieve
An unattainable goal

the infamous "they"

Sat Jul 21, 2007 at 07:35:52 PM PDT

Wasn’t it all supposed to be alright?
Didn’t they tell us to just hold tight?
They said they’d fix it, didn’t they?
They said it’d be okay.
Then why doesn’t today
Feel better than yesterday?
Is it because they lied?
Because the boys died?
They don’t seem to notice.
They see progress,
Towards an unattainable goal.
They see terror as the foe,
So,
Why do they make us afraid?
Why do they continue to wade
In the Tigris?
Don’t they see this?
What do they see?
Do they see me?
And others like me?
Wanting it to end?
63 percent.
See what I see.
Someday,
The infamous they
Will see it too.
